2013-11-28 - Outcomes of the Warsaw Dialogues on Climate Change

Last week, delegates from across the globe gathered in Warsaw, Poland to begin preliminary dialogue ahead of 2014's Climate Conference in Bonn.

As part of this the delegates recognised the increasingly important role that cities and sub-national regions can play in the fight against climate change.  Now, to help with greater engagement, they have decided to

1) create a specific forum for cities to interact with the aim of;
2) facilitating the exchange of experiences and best practices between cities and subnational authorities in identifying and implementing opportunities to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change.

Given the indifferent outcome of negotiations at the national scale, not just at this conference, but at the previous Copenhagen conference, the role of our cities is becoming increasingly important.  This highlights that our city leaders must redouble their efforts to mitigate the effects of serious climate change and we look forward to helping them in that fight.
